It’s never too late and you are never too old to get moving
As we get older, staying or getting active can work wonders for your physical and mental health, which can lead to a longer life with greater independence. As we get older it takes longer to burn fat and build muscle. Recovery time from injury is longer. By building muscle, stretching, and getting fit, you avoid injuries, maintain flexibility and balance, reduce anxiety, improve moods and help with memory. Reduce pain, relieve stress, improve sleep, lower risk for chronic disease, and increase “good” cholesterol.
If you haven’t been active, it can feel daunting
Where do I start? What should I do? A good start is talking with your medical professional to find your fitness level. Another is to choose activities that you enjoy. There is something for everyone: walking, swimming, yoga, weight training, and tai chi to name a few.
